Winter Yard Debris: Should It Be Retained Or Should It Go?

The last mowing of your lawns, and then spending some time raking the autumn leaves can be very satisfying. But what about dealing with all that yard waste and organic matter? That's not it.

In your backyard, you might also have stacks of old lumber from dismantled structures.

A rotting wood deck is an example of old fencing. Perhaps there was an old garden shed or tool that was finally time to go. A swing set is older, less sturdy, and no longer suitable for use by the kids. Then there are the piles and piles of bricks, pavers, or flagstones from the patio or walkway construction last year.

You don't want all of that junk to sit in your yard over the winter. You don't really want to have to clean it all up and load it in a truck.

So what can you do now?

You don't have to DIY when you can get it DFY

Smart, successful business executives and owners know the importance of not doing everything.

They realize the importance of prioritizing their time, their energies, and their resources to maximize their effort and maximize their strengths. They also use the power that delegation gives them to do more with less.

You can also do it for your homeowners.

Even if your kids are old enough for a rake to be held, you may have already done some delegating. Although hiring a neighbor to mow the yard or rake the leaves might seem like more of an "outsourcing" approach than "delegation," the basic principle remains the same.

In other words, it's better to hire someone to do it for you than "do it yourself".

You can have some organic debris on the lawn. The best thing for your lawn is to have some decaying grass clippings, leaves, and other nutrients. It is best to enjoy everything in moderation.

Composting is also an option for organic waste materials.

Large piles of leaves or grass clippings can kill your grass.

Also, many of these yard waste materials pose a risk to safety, especially if they snow cover. Don't trip on the boards and find them broken in the snow!

However, it is possible that you will not want to dispose of everything yourself.

What are your options?
